The Lonesome Sharks were born from a casual group built around Adlie "Arkie" Hedges, a championship fiddler from Arkansas. Looking for a name to describe themselves, they settled on "Ark & the Sharks". Arkie soon retired to Florida though, leaving the remaining members of the band to fend for themselves. They decided that "The Lonesome Sharks" described their current situation very well, and paid tribute at the same time to the original "High Lonesome" sound conceived by Bill Monroe. The Sharks soon developed their own signature sound, as evidenced on their debut CD, "The Great White Album". Arkie occasionally returns for an appearance, and when he does, they really raise the roof. Their style faithfully carries forward the traditions of old time Bluegrass. They pay homage to the second wave of Bluegrass artists who changed the landscape of the genre in the 1960's, while looking ahead, hoping to put their own stamp on America's music. On mandolin, they feature John Bowyer. Guitars are handled by Dave Johnson and Jay Jasper. Ricke Young picks the banjo and Jeff Headrick thumps the bass.
