Willie J. Thompson III (TFOXX) was born on October 7, 1957 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He studied trumpet with music instructor Robert Harris and music director Samuel Robinson throughout grade school. Upon entering high school he studied jazz guitar with Gary Syker and has been playing professionally for 34 years with 2 CD projects to his credit. Thompson has studied with jazz guitarists Robert Conti, Joe Broccio, Jim Robo and Brad Carlton, all of whom inspired his stunning guitar style.
Thompson entered the Military Naval School of Music in Little Creek. Virginia for the Marine Corps Band where guitarist Jim Robo helped enhance his skills performing in a musical ensemble. Since then he has performed all over the United States as a Jazz Combo Section Leader, Rock Band Section Leader, and a Rhythm Section Leader.
His professional experience includes performances with Chubby Checker in Okinawa Japan. Festival in Perth Australia, and in 1993 pre-shows for George Benson and B.B. King at the Jannus Landing Jazz Festival of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Willie has opened for the Roger Smith Band. Jake Sampson Band, and performed at the W.C. Handy Jazz Festival, Football Hall of Fame Music Festival, Gospel Pace Sisters, Tampa Bay Mass Choir and many government dignitaries.
He has also performed with Jazz/R&B vocalist Maria Howell -actress from the movie The Color Purple. Smooth Jazz artist and Co-Producer Allon Sams and Keyboardist/Vocalist Shawn Brown as well as the R&B group AddLibb, Felonious Funk Band and the TFOXX R&B Contemporary Jazz Group.
TFOXX has appeared on Okinawa, Japan Japanese television and in many five star hotels and clubs throughout Japan.
In April 2004 TFOXX won the WSJT 94.1 Battle of the Bands at BayWalk in St. Petersburg Florida.
TFOXX was the opening performer for Patti Austin and Brian Culbertson at the WSJT 94.1 Smooth Jazz Festival in 2004. He played guitar on a song titled "Ben Jammin" on Allon Sams CD "Music & Laughter"
TFOXX played guitar on a song titled "G'man" on Gene Cannon's CD titled Soul Dances.
TFOXX wrote the song titled "Side Steppin" co-arranged with Allon Sams and 2 time grammy winner Paul Brown on the CD titled "The City". This song was rated #5 Best of 2005 Radio Show FusionFlavours.com
He performed with Paul Brown at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center 2005.
